My Secret

I want to share a secret

I rarely share with anyone

I probably wouldn’t mention it at all

Except for how close we’ve become

It’s not a dirty secret

Not like I murdered anyone

I’m not a fugitive from the law

Although I have lived on the run

That’s my secret

When I get too close I run

Too close to love I run away

There now you know my secret

Maybe it’ll help you understand

Why I have resisted the temptation

To fire up a hot romance

That’s my secret

When I get too close I run

Like I’m running from a gun

When I get too close to love I run

I run like a rabbit, I fly away like a startled bird

I flee like a deer, I run away, I lose the herd

Till I feel safe, until I’m far away and safe and all alone

I run

So, forgive me for my secret

And for this cowardly goodbye

I never would purposely hurt you

But some things just won’t be denied

That’s my secret

When I get this close I run

Like I was shot from a gun

When I get too close to love I run

There now you know my secret

NOTES ON THIS SONG
Ruxandra and I went to visit her friends, one of whose father is a musician, a saxophonist. He told me about a song he had written that ended on a major 6th (as if I knew what that was). I went home and researched major 6ths, which led to this song. It‘s a song about me in a humbling, almost embarrassing sort of way. The sad reality is that there  is a lot of people out there who relate to this song. Not every love song is pretty.
