Till I Can’t Love Anymore

I promised I would love her

Just as long as I could love her

Everyday I’d learn to love her even more

From the honeymoon and marriage

Through the borrowed baby carriage

To the day I get to go and face the Lord

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

She’s the echo in my head

Like that day we broke the bed

And the laughter that we shared that afternoon

She could tickle me with loving

Even warm me like an oven

She made anything and everything feel new

Like new

Brand new

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

It doesn’t matter that she fooled around

And found herself another man, ‘cause

When I  promised her forever

I was talking about as long as I can

And I still can

I’m going to love that woman till I can love her no more

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

I promise I will love her

Just as long as I can love her

Everyday I’m going to love her even more

And though I don’t know what she’s doing

Where she’s doing what she’s doing

Or for whom she’s doing, this I know for sure

I’m going to love that woman till I can love her no more

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

I’m going to love that woman till I can’t love anymore

NOTES ON THIS SONG
I’m not a huge fan of songwriting contests, since only two or three writers out of the many hundreds or thousands get any real benefit. Seminars, on the other hand, though much more expensive, actually yield benefits for most or all of the entrants. This song is the direct result of my participation at the Austin Songwriters Group’s 2006 Symposium. For me, it is much more important that I spend money to take home a song  than to take home a trophy.
