I Said Nothing at All

I wanted to say something, that day we parted on the lawn

And I wanted it to tell you I would still love you when you’re gone

Yes I wanted to say something, oh so special and so rare

That you’d never hear another lover say it anywhere

But I said nothing at all, I said nothing at all

With my love put to the test, I summoned up my very best

And I said nothing at all

But I wanted to say something that would touch you deep inside

Something so profoundly moving that you’d forget that other guy

But I said nothing at all, I said nothing at all

With my love put to the test, I summoned up my very best

And I said nothing at all

I didn’t say a single word, I didn’t utter a single sound

I simply kissed you on the lips, babe, I didn’t try to tie you down

But I wanted to say something with some humor in it, too

A little hokey joke to show you that I would be as strong as you

But then I saw it in your eyes, I saw it burning in your eyes

You didn’t want me to be strong, you didn’t want me to prolong

The pain of saying that goodbye

So I said nothing at all, I said nothing at all

With my love put to the test, I summoned up my very best

And I said nothing at all

I didn’t say a single word, I didn’t utter a single sound

I simply kissed you on the lips, babe, I didn’t try to tie you down

When I said nothing at all

I hope I didn’t let you down

That’s been the hardest part of all

Hearing nothing from you at all

NOTES ON THIS SONG
I wonder if the woman I’m talking about in this song would remember I sang this to her one time. My sister, Anna, likes this song. I think she recognizes the honesty in it. Curiously enough, she is the same age as the subject in the song. They were born one month apart.
