William Tell

Be wary young William what your heart dreams of

‘Cause these arrows I’m slinging might capture your love

At night when you’re sleeping I shoot them at you

Then I wait for an answer to tell me they’re true

William tell, William tell, William tell me my arrows are true

Down a deserted highway, ‘cross a quiet café

I could shoot you these arrows from light years away

But I wait till you’re sleeping, till young William’s in bed

Then I pull out these arrows and aim for your heart

William tell, William tell, William tell me my arrows are true

William tell, William tell, William tell me that you love me, too

Let your heart lead your dreams and you’ll see what I mean

(Billy) I am the girlfriend for you

Call me Cupid, call me stupid, call me clever, whatever

But I’ll carry these feelings for you in a quiver

And I’ll wait till young William lies down in the dark

Then I’ll let fly these arrows of love at your heart

William tell, William tell, William tell me my arrows are true

William tell, William tell, William tell me that you love me, too

Let your heart lead your dreams and you’ll see what I mean

(Billy) I am the girlfriend for you

NOTES ON THIS SONG
This is the story of my aunt and uncle's courtship. Aunt Flossie and Uncle Bill were also my godparents. Bill died in his early forties. Many years later, Flossie recounted a tale like this to me about how she pursued my uncle. The song is written for a female voice. Though there is a little sexiness in the lyrics, it is essentially a song for innocents.  A teenager just starting her singing career would be my ideal choice for artist. I’d speed it up a little, too!
