Jacalyn, Jacalyn

Jacalyn, Jacalyn, Jacalyn dear

I can’t explain what is happening here

The feelings we feel are so real and so clear

But they do not excuse what is happening here

And something is happening, Jacalyn

Jacalyn, Jacalyn, Jacalyn girl

Fireworks are fine in a fantasy world

But a husband at home and your own little girl

Make our magic a tragic and desperate world

Tragic and desperate, Jacalyn

But I’ll treasure every minute God gave us

And I hate it that we never did dance

And I wish that you never had kissed me goodbye

And I wish we’d surrendered to chance

Jacalyn, Jacalyn, Jacalyn

Jacalyn, Jacalyn, Jacalyn love

You know and I know that when push comes to shove

The man with whom you live is the man whom you love

And the rest of us settle for a kiss and a hug

A kiss and a hug from you, Jacalyn

So I’ll treasure every minute God gave us

And I hate it that we never did dance

And I wish that you never had kissed me goodbye

And I wish we’d surrendered to chance

Jacalyn, Jacalyn, Jacalyn

Jacalyn, Jacalyn, Jacalyn dear

Tell me, why are you grinning from ear to ear

NOTES ON THIS SONG
This story is very Bridges of Madison County, if you will. How people, who are attracted to each other, treat their absent spouses is a story for the ages. The subject in this song never betrayed her marriage—think the movie, The Bishop’s Wife. It was difficult for me not to push for more, but I controlled my urges and respected the woman first. I know that doesn’t justify anything, but, hey, isn’t that what the story says?
