Everywhere That Ivan Goes

Round and round Ivan goes

Where he stops nobody knows

Pouring rain by the bucket load

Lord, here he comes again

Up and down the eastern coast

Into the Gulf of Mexico

Everywhere that Ivan goes

Trouble follows him

And here he comes again

If you wanna know where he’s gonna go

Then look to where he’s been

It’s the path of least resistance

That he’s following my friend

He’s following the wind

And here he comes again

The Caribbean Islands

Had to keep an eye on him

And now his eye is bearing down

On the town that I live in

The tide is rising steadily

There’s flooding in the den

And it isn’t even raining yet

Lord, what a mess we’re in

‘Cause here he comes again

If you wanna know where he’s gonna go

Then look to where he’s been

It’s the path of least resistance

That he’s following my friend

He’s following the wind

And here he comes again

Round and round Ivan goes

Where he stops nobody knows

But everywhere that Ivan goes

Misery follows him

And here comes Ivan’s evil twin

If you wanna know where he’s gonna go

Then look to where he’s been

It’s the path of least resistance

That he’s following my friend

He’s following the wind

And here comes Ivan again

NOTES ON THIS SONG
Ivan was a really unusual hurricane. It just wouldn’t go away. The eastern seaboard, the Caribbean Islands, the  coast of the Gulf of Mexico, they all suffered Ivan’s winds, tides and rain. I am fascinated by hurricanes. Ivan was not particularly destructive, but he was long-winded (pardon the pun). He never actually made it to Galveston. He blew himself out just north of there in the piney woods of East Texas and western Louisiana.
