Part of My Soul

There’s a woman I know got a part of my soul

And she’ll never return it to me

She knows who she is and she knows what she did

‘Cause she did it so skillfully

That part of my soul that I guarded like gold

Well, she stole it away from me

And she did it so skillfully

Like a spider inviting a fly to her web

She invited me into her heart

The way I felt then I went rushing right in

Didn’t care she might tear me apart

I went rushing right into her heart

That part of my soul that I guarded like gold

Well, she stole it away from me

But that part of my soul had been taking its toll

Till she came and she took it from me

And she did it so skillfully

I loved her then and

I still love her now

I will love her eternally

There’s a woman I know got a part of my soul

But she need not return it to me

She knows who she is and she knows what she did

And thank God that she did it to me

And that she did it so skillfully

That part of my soul that I guarded like gold

She cajoled it away from me

But that part of my soul nearly swallowed me whole

Till she came and she saved me from me

She came and she set my heart free

And she did it so skillfully

NOTES ON THIS SONG
This was the title song of the album for the longest time. At the last minute, before publishing this Web site, I decided on the change because I retrieved “The Spirit of Love” from mothballs. This song is very near to my heart. So is the subject of the song, though she is far removed from my life. I think many men can roll over in bed and touch a similar woman in their lives. I think women save us men from ourselves more than we care to admit.
