Yard Sale Queen of Queens

Yard-for-yard as yard sales go, my girlfriend is the best I know

At sorting through the junk to find the gem

Like the time she found this old guitar wrapped in a sack

In a dark garage with the kerosene, old magazines and tins

She rescued him

Yard-for-yard as yard sales go, come rain or shine or even snow

I know I can count on her to find the prize

She has furnished our whole world this way

Oh sure, she lets me have my say but my honey is the one who’s money-wise

She is the queen

She’s the queen of the yard sale scene in Flushing, Queens

She’s the Yard Sale Queen of Queens

And what that means

I am living like a king in Flushing, Queens

Just a few years past my teens

Wearing all designer jeans

I am living like a king in Flushing, Queens

Yard-for-yard as yard sales go, she knows just how low we should go

For a lamp shade or a bed frame or a wheel

We fell in love in my neighbor’s yard when the two of them got to haggling hard

And I swooped in for the deal to end all my deals

She is the queen

She’s the queen of the yard sale scene in Flushing, Queens

She’s the Yard Sale Queen of Queens

And what that means

I am living like a king in Flushing, Queens

We’ve got a lot, I mean a ton, of useless things

But I am living like a king in Flushing, Queens

Word-for-word as girlfriends go, my girlfriend is the best one I am ever gonna know

NOTES ON THIS SONG
Pat Pattison is a name songwriters and recording artists will recognize. At one of his weekend workshops in Austin, he gave a homework assignment. Write a song about a yard sale. I brought this song in the next morning, about sixty percent complete.  The rewrite only took till the end of that week. Pat is an inspirational teacher, and he is, by far, the most capable song critic I have ever met. He’s got a Web site. If you write, visit it.
