Grandpa Kiss

My grandpa wrote a song for me, it goes something like this

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss

He wrote the song ‘cause I was bad or mad or sad one day

He said he wrote the song to make that bad day go away

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me just like this

And then he throws a kiss, a great big grandpa kiss

The kind of kiss you couldn’t miss, the kind you catch like this

With both your little fists

A great big grandpa kiss

(Sit up straight and buckle up ‘cause here we go again)

To make me laugh he sings this song and hops around like this

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me on a pogo stick

And then he throws a kiss, a bouncy grandpa kiss

The kind of kiss you shouldn’t miss, the kind you catch like this

With both your little fists

While wiggling your hips

You do a little twist

Then slap it on your lips

That great big grandpa kiss

(One more time around the horn and that’s the end of this)

My grandpa wrote a song for me, I’ll bet you get the gist (uh-huh)

My grandpa sings this song to me whenever I am bad (unh-unh) or mad (uh-oh)

or sad (ooh-ooh) wah-wah (wah-wah)

My grandpa sings this song to me because it makes me glad

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me really quick

And then he throws a kiss, a goodbye grandpa kiss

The kind of kiss you wouldn’t miss, the kind you catch like this

With both your little fists

While wiggling your hips

You do a little twist

Then slap it on your lips

That big fat grandpa kiss

NOTES ON THIS SONG
This song is about my dad, who is the grandpa in the family these days. My littlest nieces, Madalyn and Mae Ellen inspired the song. Madalyn recorded background vocal tracks. Mae Ellen wanted to, but she was the tiniest bit too young at the time we recorded. Mae knows all the words, though. Maybe one day she and I can do an open mic together. She’s a big ham, just as I am. Mardi Wareham and Jannie Ernst also do background vocals.
